Dear Colleagues,
Digital Construction and Artificial Intelligence (AI) have brought new opportunities and vitality to classical civil engineering. In order to meet the future needs and development trend of the construction industry, there is an urgent need to improve the understanding of all the practitioners on Digital Construction and AI.
This Special Issue (SI) aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the current practices of construction automation, Building Information Modeling (BIM), deep learning and machine learning, smart construction and operation, digital twin, and intelligent buildings. In addition, the SI will cover papers suggesting the future agenda based on an intensive literature review. This SI aims to collect all the practices that may promote the construction industry's digital and intelligent transformation.
This SI includes a wide range of theories and technologies that can be employed to collect data, analyze information, predict events, and make decisions intelligently. The context of research objects can be a building, construction, project, or even a city. This SI welcomes submissions from diverse disciplines, including civil engineering, computer science, environmental engineering, architecture design, and engineering management. We encourage authors to develop or clarify the implications of the following topics and technologies in construction automation.
Potential topics include but are not limited to the application of Digital Construction and AI to address the following objectives:
l Automation and intelligence in construction;
l Deep learning and trustworthy AI;
l Construction big data for intelligent decision making;
l Intelligent construction machinery for man–machine integration;
l Construction Internet of Things for construction sites;
l Engineering defects detection for construction quality;
l Facilitating the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals;
l Improving construction health, safety and risk management;
l Improving smart cities and intelligent infrastructure;
l Enhancing the resilience of critical infrastructures;
l Implementing Industry 4.0 in different sectors.
